Mallorca is a perfect place to help you mitigate the effects of impotence, dementia, Alzheimer's and other brain degenerating diseases. Village markets have the perfect array of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes that support a healthy diet. Eating natural fruit sugars helps the mind and body stay fit and flexible so you’ll remember where you put your car keys, parked your car and what your partner asked 15 minutes earlier. This means that you need to “slow-taste” beer and wine.

The “Slow Drink” movement is on the rise because men and women want to be healthier, fit and supple for fun.
What is the Slow Food Movement? #
The idea of a 'slow food' movement was created by Carlo Petrini in 1986 as an alternative to fast food, it strives to preserve traditional and regional cuisine and encourages farming of plants, seeds, and livestock characteristic of the local ecosystem. It promotes local small businesses and sustainable foods. It also focuses on food quality, rather than quantity. Variations of this theme include 'slow drink' and 'slow taste.'
“Slow Food is a global, grassroots organization, founded in 1989 to prevent the disappearance of local food cultures and traditions, counteract the rise of fast life and combat people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from and how our food choices affect the world around us.
Since its beginnings, Slow Food has grown into a global movement involving millions of people in over 160 countries, working to ensure everyone has access to good, clean and fair food.
Slow Food believes food is tied to many other aspects of life, including culture, politics, agriculture and the environment. Through our food choices we can collectively influence how food is cultivated, produced and distributed, and change the world as a result.”
Affordable Mallorca strongly supports local, sustainable alternatives. If you search our library, you’ll find articles that highlight the people and places on the island where you’ll find lifestyle choices that enhance your lifestyle.
Eat Blueberries, Figs and Aubergines #
Research has shown that consuming blueberries and other dark fruits helps to improve or delay short-term memory loss by way of their active plant compounds called anthocyanins. These compounds are responsible for the dark red and purple colors of fruits and vegetables.
‘Look for other fruits and vegetables such as berries, aubergines and beetroots for a good supply of these phytonutrients,’ a top nutritionist told me. She continued, ‘A recent study found significantly less brain deterioration in older patients with mild cognitive impairment after receiving high doses of B6, B12 and folic acid.’ An added benefit is that the B vitamins keep the moscas away.
Remember to Include Walnuts, Almonds, Brazil Nuts and Eggs #
Good sources of vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid are walnuts and Brazil nuts, green vegetables and eggs. We are fortunate to find these nuts at every village market. For more on best places on the island to find these foodie treasures, click our Ultimate Guide to Markets on Mallorca.
Mallorca also has sustainable agriculture that supports vibrant health and well being. To read more, click Organic Food and Farming on Mallorca. Find a farm near you or take a drive and discover the richness around you.
Fish and Olive Oil #
Other research has shown eating foods like ginger and oily fish protects glial cells. These cells are the most abundant of the nervous system and provide support and insulation that enhances brain health. Mallorca’s fish markets offer fresh catch daily. Combine this with the locally produced olive oil and you are in a delicious heaven of flavors and health.
The most crucial fatty acids associated with maintaining a healthy brain, vibrant heart and flexible joints are EPA and DHA. The body produces these substances naturally but this ability slows over time. Without a strong level of EPA and DHA, men experience impotence and a general lack of libido and energy. What better way to eat your nutrients than enjoying pescado a la plancha con aceite de oliva. Fish markets in Port Andratx and Palma, Alcudia and Pollença have daily selections for the public.
Savour Your Precious Life #
Whether you arrived in Mallorca for a holiday or a new life, healthy living is yours for the taking. We do have a different pace of living that allows for savoring the succulents on the island. Many fincas have fresh pomegranates, berry bushes and almond trees. Explore the island, visit village markets and savour the unique flavors that will make you feel alive again.
