Discover the Roof Terraces of Palma Cathedral

2 May 2023

True, it takes a bit of effort to climb the two hundred fifteen steps go all the way to the top of the cathedral – forty-three metres in total. And granted, there is no lift. But believe me, it's worth it. The views are stunning! When you're up there, the whole bay of Palma lies at your feet.

Talking about 215 – that's the official number of steps as given on the Palma Cathedral Website. Our guide told us it were 208. How about you go there and count …

How to Book #

You have to pre-book a one-hour tour to gain access to the terraces of La Seu (as locals lovingly call their cathedral). To do this, click here>>

You will receive an email to confirm your booking. Don't forget to bring it when you present yourself at the Almoina Entrance (Portal de la Almoina) in Plaza de la Seu. Make sure to be there twenty minutes before the appointed time.

The price is 12€ p.p. including access to the cathedral. Entrance for residents is free.

Children under the age of 11 are not admitted. (Do not forget to bring an official ID). Those under 18 have to be accompanied by an adult. Dogs are not allowed (with the exception of guide dogs for the blind).

The tour is offered from May 2nd till October 31st.

As the ticket price includes access to the cathedral it's wise to book during visiting times. These vary depending on the time of year, but La Seu is open Monday to Friday at 10 a.m. and usually closes before 6 p.m.

Editor´s Note: Visiting hours are in the morning since COVID.

A Few Rules to Observe #

The cathedral is a place of worship and visitors are asked to behave in a decent, respectful way. There is no official dress code, but make sure you don't show too much skin, especially if you are planning to visit the cathedral afterwards. Otherwise you might even be asked to leave.

Please, don't bring any ice creams or other messy food or alcoholic beverages.

Note that you must be physically fit to muster the strength for the climb and not be prone to vertigo.

Affordable Mallorca Tip: There are no toilet facilities neither up on the cathedral roof nor en route to the top. Better take that into account…

More Things to See #

Although the magnificent views from the roof terraces are doubtlessly the highlight of the tour, it's also interesting to see the remotest and most secret nooks of the cathedral. Watch out for the organ in a small room halfway up to the top (and use the opportunity to catch your breath before tackling the rest of the ascent). The bells are quite spectacular, too. And you'll get really close to a rare and especially fine specimen of gothic architecture - the famous rose window.
