International Women's Day in Mallorca

Mallorca has an impressive array of activities throughout March to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, 2020. We encourage you to check out the activities below, reflect and celebrate this day in your own way on our beautiful Island – a place many women persevere and thrive.

FRIDAY, MARCH 6
All-day, Palma: Institutional act of the Consell, display of the flag on the facade. Consell de Mallorca.

12pm, Palma: Student demonstration at Student Union. Location: Departure from the 'tube square' of Palma.

4:30pm, Pollença: Workshop and banner sticking. Location: Plaça Major de Pollença. Organized by Mala Pècora.

5:00pm, Artà: Dress the trees of the Ciutat street. Organized by Bruixes Feministes d'Artà.

5:30pm, Artà: Storyteller: El goril·la lila i altres contes per la igualtat by Ramon Ginard. Location: Plaça del Conqueridor, Artà.

6:00pm, Palma: Amelia Tiganus Conference: “How to live without sexual violence between pornography and prostitution”. Location: Flassaders center. Free entrance until full capacity. Organized by the City Council of Palma.

7:00pm, Alaró: Presentation of the Feminisme del poble magazine. Location: Metge Colom Street, 17,

7:00pm, Palma: Talk. ”Unlink the Feminism of Capital”. Location: Casal Popular Voltor Negre. With members of the Feminist Movement of Mallorca and Arran.

7:00pm, Felanitx: Talk. Carregar-nos l'home, esbucar el sistema patriarcal. Camins a transitar per desfer el model de la masculinitat tarada. Location: Ateneu de Felanitx. Organized by Felanitx per la Igualtat.

10:45am, Palma: March/walk. “We walk together, we transform the way,” from the Plaza de la Reina de Palma (in the statue of Miró) to the Bauzà Mas park. Networking event with Júlia Vázquez, head of coordination of violence against women, Catalina Montserrat, coordinator of gender violence of the Bar Association; José María Piñero, from the College of Psychologists. 7:30pm, Pollença: Talk. Origins of feminism in Mallorca, by Catalina Martorell. Location: In the Ateneo de Pollença. Organized by Bad Pecora.

8:00pm, Palma: Performance. “Celebrating feminism. 20 years of IBDona”. Event will open with a performance by the students of the Conservatory with pieces by Lili Boulanger and Clara Schuman. Then the IBDona: Francisca Mas, Isabel Llinàs, Manuela Meseguer, Lila Thomàs and Rosa Cursach. Concert will end with a performance by the women of the Symphony Orchestra (String Group), who will play pieces by Mozart and Tchaikovsky. Location: Superior Conservatory of Music of the Balearic Islands.

SUNDAY, MARCH 8 (INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY “8M”)
All-day: Strike. Organized by the Mallorca Feminist Movement.

09:00am, Artà: Departure by bus from the Costa i Llobera avenue towards the manifestation of the 8M in Palma. The reservation can be made in the theater cafeteria until March 5. In addition, from 11am to 2pm, free entrance to the Garden of the Women of Artà (Camí de Carrossa, km 0.9)

10:00am, Capdepera: Reading of the manifesto of the Feminist Movement of Mallorca. Location: Castellet square.

10:00am, Esporles: Cacerolada and reading of the manifesto. Location: square of Jardinet. Organized by the Feminist Commission of the Ateneo Popular de Esporles.

10:07am, Pollença: Train from Sa Pobla. Meeting point: Calle Eusebio Estada, 11:45 am, pollencí block towards the manifestation of the 8M in Palma.

12:00pm, Palma: Demonstration. “Destroy patriarchy, not the planet”. Location: Plaza de España. Call for the Feminist Movement of Mallorca.

8:00pm, Felanitx: Reading. On the microcredits awarded in the first competition of the educational centers of the municipality and concert of Mar Grimalt, Estepa Blanca, Combo s'Escola de Música and Combo of the Conservatory.

MONDAY, MARCH 9
All-day, Palma:
Exhibition. Jornadas Prostitution: Darkness of human rights. Location: CaixaFòrum in Palma, coinciding with the opening of the exhibition on gender violence Emotions-Reactions. organized by the Government and Doctors of the World.

7:00pm, Palma: Round table. “8M 4D,” mental health lived from the experience of being a woman. Location: Diario de Mallorca Club. Organized by 3 Mental Health.

8:00pm, Felanitx: Talk. Presentation of equality challenges. Location: headquarters of La Penya. Organized by Felanitx for the Equality and Penya Barcelonista Els Tamarells.

TUESDAY, MARCH 10
5:00pm – 7:00pm, Palma: Round table. “Communication in Feminist Terms,” given by ComfemIB. Location: Actor room of the building of Sa Riera, in Palma. Organized by the Office of Equality of the UIB.

6:00pm, Artà: Storytelling. “Daniela, the pirate,” by Catalina Baobab. Location: Library of Artà

6:00pm, Marratxí: Workshop. “Gypsy feminism,” by Silvia Agüero. Location: local Des Garrovers.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11

6:00pm, Palma: Conference. “The abolitionist stance in response to the experience of an abolitionist country”, by Ingeborg Kraus, and “How to rediscover the emotional well-being of women and sexually exploited children,” by Koen Sevenants. Location: Parliament Headquarters.

6:00pm, Artà: Film. “I want to be like Beckham” and round table on women's sport. Location: Cinema room of the Theater of Artà. Organized by Feminist Witches of Artà.

THURSDAY, MARCH 12
6:00pm, Sineu: Dramatized reading and colloquium. Activity for young people and adults. Location: Town hall of Sineu. Organized by Women of Arrel.

7:00pm, Artà: Poetic tour. Les voltes rebelon the main issues of the feminist agenda, led by poetess, Maria Antònia Massanet. Location: Cafeteria of the Theater of Artà.

09:30am, Santa Maria: Start of the First Days of Feminist Municipalism. Organized by the Consell de Mallorca. Begins in the morning and continues in afternoon of Friday and Saturday.
