The largest classical music festival on the Island is held in Pollensa. Created in 1962 by the famous British violinist Philip Newman, it is held annually in either July or August (sometimes both!). The event has regularly attracted eminent figures such as the soprano Montserrat Caballé, cellist Mstislav Rostropovich and the Orchestre National de France with Lorin Maazel as conductor.
