“Money makes the world go 'round; however, happiness greases the axle. Without this lubricant, life will seize.” ― Paul Van Der Merwe
Mallorca’s hospitality industry has done a great job at creating the illusion that the entire island is a luxury hide-away. We certainly agree with many that certain areas of the island have properties, restaurants and hotels that most of us can’t afford. Palma's Paseo Marítimo and towns or villages like Port Andratx, Calvià, Es Capdeìa, Camp de Mar, and Esporles have some of the highest property prices in Spain. But there are other areas on the island that are still affordable. Villages like Algaida and Selva, for example, can easily compete with other parts of the world offering similar amenities and settings.
On Mallorca, moving out to country villages doesn't mean to cut yourself off from city life. Most places are within a 45-minute drive of Palma, less than 30-minutes from the sea and accessible by public transportation. And the island has much more speaking for it. Crime is lower than most places (except for the pick pockets in the tourist areas of Palma) and Spain has reasonably priced healthcare and health insurance without the waiting time for appointments and approvals that you’ll find in other parts of the western world.
Balance the higher taxes on absolutely anything you want to buy - from food and electricity to paying a contractor to install a new AC unit - with sitting in a café sharing a meal with friends for hours, having a swim in the Med after work or playing a round of golf on the more than 300 days of sunshine.
Find Your Place to Live, Work and Enjoy #
I created this brand and website to help people find places to live on the island that won’t break the bank, leaving enough money to jet off for a 4-day trip to Prague which is affordable with a residency discount from a local travel agency.
We have writers who live and work here, yet find time to appreciate Mallorca's relaxed lifestyle with everything its rich local and international community has to offer, join the fun at the island´s many festivals and enjoy vacations because life takes on a different rhythm here.
We at Affordable Mallorca introduce you to places where living in a village provides a sense of community. The people we profile show you who lives here, what they do and why they do it. It is my hope that you will be inspired to write your own story, as you find purpose in everyday living.
We are a resource for frequent travelers, real estate agents who need help activating a real estate listing and for private homeowners interested in marketing their properties for sale or rent.
With global instability in climate, politics and finance, with housing costs skyrocketing even in the most marginally safe cities, I hope you will join us in discovering how and where to live on Mallorca affordably. Share with us your own stories as we explore the next chapters in our lives, together.
