You are planning to leave Mallorca for a longer period of time and don't want to go on paying car insurance? Or your car has reached the end of its useful life? Here is what you do:
Baja Temporal: Temporary Removal from Circulation #
The process is simple: Fill in the official form present it to the Jefatura de Tráfico in Palma together with your Passport and NIE, ITV documentation, tax receipt and circulation permit. The fee is 8.40€ - unless your car was stolen, that is. In this case it's free. How's that for a comfort?
Baja Definitiva: Permanent Removal from Circulation #
If your car has permanently given up its ghost, make sure you take it to an authorized scrapyard (Centro Autorizado de Tratamiento de Vehiculos)out for their official sign displaying their authorization number. Depending on the state of your vehicle, some of them come and pick it up – possibly even for free. Others offer 100€ if you take it to their premises yourself.
The process is basically the same as for the baja temporal, only in this case the Scrapyard people will help you along with it: Fill in the the official form present it to the Jefatura de Tráfico in Palma together with your Passport and NIE, ITV documentation, tax receipt and circulation permit.
You will be issued a Certificado de Destruccion and a receipt confirming withdrawal of your vehicle from circulation.
