Rafa Nadal - Mallorca’s Wedding of the Year

14 October 2019

Not a minute too soon, it has recently been confirmed when and where Manacor-born tennis superstar Rafael Nadal and long-time love Xisca ("Mery") Perelló will be wed. The two have been an item since he was 19 and she was 17.

In case you haven’t yet received your invitation, the date is set for 19th October in Puerto Pollença near the La Fortaleza Estate, known locally as "Sa Fortalesa," a military fortress once owned by the UK Businessman Lord James Lupton and made famous by the BBC series The Night Manager and Turn Up Charlie with Idris Elba.

This venue has a stunning view of Port of Pollença aka Puerto de Pollensa and is near the village of Sa Pobla, not far from Manacor, hometown of the Nadals.

The Officiant is Tomeu Catala, Catholic priest and former vicar of Alcudia who has a long history with the Nadal Family and founder of Projecte Home, a charity that provides council and support for drug addicts and alcoholics.

The reception will follow on the estate grounds with a feast being served up by friend and Michelin star chef Quique Dacosta. Dacosta, whose eponymous restaurants on the mainland are well-known to foodies the world over, will be serving typical Mallorcan dishes to honour the bride and groom’s roots. While the guests will dine on traditional fish, Rafa will have more a plant-based menu.

Security will be incredibly tight for the couple’s nuptials, meaning gate-crashing will be nigh on impossible.

The celebrity guest list, which is rumoured to top 500 guests, includes fellow tennis players Feliciano López and Fernando Verdasco, singer Enrique Iglesias, renowned footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as a royal presence. King Juan Carlos I, whom the happy couple share a warm relationship with, will be in attendance rounding out an already glamorous event.
