La Llotja del Peix #

06:00-14:00, closed Sunday; worth checking out on a Saturday morning.

Every morning, when fishermen come back from a night at sea around 6 a.m., they deliver loads of perfect seafood onto the dock of the Moll de Pescadors. With an extensive selection of fish and the central location of Palma, some of the best restaurants on the island purchase seafood here.

Prices are fair and posted. You can negotiate, but if you don’t speak fluent Spanish, you may end up paying the asking price after all.

Fish Market 2 Mallorca

Mercat Olivar #

Monday to Thursday 7:00-14:30, Friday till 20:00 and Saturday till 15:00, closed Sunday.

A 15 minutes' walk from the Cathedral La Seu and just a few steps away from Plaza España, the biggest and best-known indoor market on the Island offers an abundance of hams, sausages, cheeses, olives and other Spanish and local Mallorquin products. In the fish department, you find a great variety of fish and seafood: Gambas (prawns) de Sóller, red scorpionfish, swordfish, moray eels … whatever it is you have on your shopping list, you can be sure to find it here. If you are more of a meat eater, take the escalator upstairs to pick up what you need for your dinner.

During the tourist season, you can expect to see more people exploring this historic, central market first opened in 1951. Quite a few among the 3,000 daily visitors walk through the aisles on the heels of a tourist guide as one of the highlights of their Palma Sightseeing Tour

Mercat Santa Catalina #

Monday to Saturday 8:00-14:00

There was nothing posh about Santa Catalina when this market was founded in 1905 – what has become one of the most cosmopolitan and fashionable neighbourhoods with trendy shops, restaurants and bars used to be fishermen's barrio. Apart from an excellent choice of fresh produce, the special attraction of this market is in the stalls serving a great variety of ready-cooked dishes: fresh tapas, pinchos, paella, ham, cheese and fish. The younger generation of locals love to meet here for a casual Saturday lunch. Not a bad way to start your weekend…
