Municipal Indoor Pools on Mallorca

23 October 2019

Almost all of Mallorca's regions have at least one municipal indoor pool open to anyone and everyone for a small fee. They can be accessed year-round, which is a big bonus in Mallorca's cooler season, when the sea is not warm enough to swim. Whether you want to while away a rainy afternoon, seriously train or simply splash about - dive into this article to find out all about it!

Peguera has a beautifully maintained indoor pool that also happens to be heated (perfect for people who hate to be chilly in the pool- like me!). With six lanes and two large changing rooms it’s no wonder why it is so popular with local residents looking to train or simply do a leisurely lane swim. Open all year round, with a successful swimming school and aquagym classes it’s a great pool for the entire family. For bookings and enquiries head to www.calviadeportes.com where the website is available in English, Catalan and Spanish.

Andratx has a large indoor sports complex – the Palau Municipal d’Esports – featuring a fabulous training pool, not too dissimilar to that in the neighbouring town of Peguera. Open Monday- Friday from 08.00-22.00, Saturdays 08.30-21.30 and Sundays 08.30-14.30 there is a range of instructor-led classes, and free swim sessions available. For those of you with little ones, or perhaps wanting to brush up on your front crawl, you can book classes in the swim school. Please, be aware that this pool closes for the month of August, as well as on all public holidays. For more information, head to www.andratx.cat, and find details in English, Spanish and Catalan.

RadSport in Son Servera is primarily a gym and fitness centre, but with an impressive indoor pool on site. Although there is a swim school and children’s classes on offer; aqua fitness sessions such as aqua zumba and water aerobics (if that takes your fancy!) take priority here. The large pool is divided into lanes and focuses on training and conditioning more so than a gentle ‘bob’ in the water. For anyone looking to improve their strokes and fitness in the water, this is the place for you. The location also means that there is a very international community in attendance as many expats and season workers live in the neighbouring towns of Cala Bona, Cala Millor and Sa Coma, so you’re sure to make some great work out friends! All information regarding pricing and opening times can be found at www.sonservera.radsport.es (they’re also very active on Facebook).

The indoor pool in Cala d’Or is fabulous for those who enjoy activities centred around water fitness. Offering an aquafit class almost every day, Cala d’Or has one of the most sociable pools around. Of course, if this isn’t your scene you can just as easily pop along for a swim at your leisure. With monthly membership costing a mere 20€, and flexible opening hours from Monday to Sunday, no matter what your working week entails you can still get yourselves a dip in the pool. Alcudia has a beautiful municipal pool I have frequented on many an occasion. Open year round, and a thriving centre of the community (sporting and non-sporting) there is an array of classes available for those who are 3 years old or 103 years old! During the evenings the swim school operates until around 9 p.m., and for the final hour lane swimming is available for those who like to train hard or simply take a dip after a workout in the gym or at a class. Galas and other competitions are held for competitive swimmers throughout the year, as well as aerobics and Mum’s and Tots classes in the mornings. Alcudia really offers something for the whole family, whether you be a super swimmer or a relaxed floater! Further information can be found at: www.alcudiamallorca.com

Inca has a large indoor pool at the Catalina Corro Lorente Centre, available to the public throughout the year. A huge perk of this pool is that it is heated, meaning that even on those chilly winter evenings you can motivate yourself to take a little swim! Although no fitness classes operate here, they have a swim school (like many of the pools on the island) and several free sessions each day. For further information, you are best to head to the website or call the centre direct; but do be aware the webpage is only available in Spanish or Catalan. It’s worth noting that the pool also has its own Facebook page where opening times are posted regularly. Further information: incaciutat.com

The Son Roca indoor pool in Palma is open between the hours of 08.00-22.30 Monday to Friday, and Saturdays 08.00-15.00, with the pool being closed every Sunday. This spacious indoor pool is perfect for those swimmers who like to train for events, or simply work hard in the water. Son Roca also offers an array of aquafit classes throughout the week, which are great fun and brilliant for your fitness. It must be noted that this pool closes every year for an entire month (either June or August) but other than that it is widely accessible and perfect for all serious swimmers in the Palma area! A sixty-minute session will cost 29€, but there are various membership options available to lower the cost.

General Rules and Regulations #

All of the municipal pools on the island have a lifeguard, and should the post happen to be unattended for any reason there will always be a notice stating why and what to do and who to contact in case of an emergency.

The majority of the indoor pools will require pool users to wear a swim hat (which can usually be purchased at reception) and shower upon entry and exit of the pool. Children will not be allowed to enter the pool unattended under a certain age (this may vary depending on the pool) and in certain cases may need proof of their swimming ability.
