Mallorca's Best Burgers

9 May 2019

We have scoured every corner of the island in the search for the best!

Is there anything better than taking that first scrumptious bite into a delicious burger? Sauce and gherkins oozing from the bun, decorating your face like an abstract work of art with the claret and ochre colours of the ketchup and mustard that adorns this beefy beauty. The combination of flavours dances with your taste buds to the rhythm of an exotic tango, as your senses go into overdrive.

For me a burger is one of the humblest, yet most exquisite items on the menu, and must be measured upon its taste, its appearance and, of course, it’s size. Here in Mallorca we pride ourselves on serving up some of the very best burgers around, whether it be beef, chicken, vegetarian or a whacky combination of them all.

Can Picafort: Bar Playa

The beachfront location is the first thing that grabs your attention with Bar Playa, eating by the waves is simply breathtaking and undeniably peaceful. Combine this stunning setting with an eclectic choice of burgers, handmade (in front of you) and served with freshly cut chips- what more could a burger lover dream of? From the simple cheeseburger, comprised of 250 grams of minced beef, and loaded with lashings of mature cheddar and fresh salad- this is solid choice for burger lovers who aren’t starving, but wish to feel sufficiently full.

However, for those of you who have worked up an appetite may be looking for something more substantial and, let’s face it, impressive. Well here at Bar Playa they have taken their own spin on the traditional McDonalds ‘Big Mac’. Bar Playa’s version of the Big Mac incorporates 2 half pound burgers (500 grams of mince!) a healthy serving of bacon, 2 layers of flavourful cheddar cheese and crispy iceberg lettuce, and juicy tomatoes, encased in a large floured bap. I am sure your mouths are watering at the very thought of this delectable delight, yet the rational parts of our brain cry ‘how much is it?’

Bar Playa is one of the most affordable burger bars around, even the monstrous Big Mac will only set you back 11€, whereas the simple hamburger and cheeseburger options are incredibly priced at just 6€; you simply can’t go wrong! For a full belly and a taste sensation, Bar Playa is a must!

Alcudia: Willy’s

One of the longest running, and best established, burger restaurants on the north of the island. Incredibly popular with locals, it has remained under the radar from tourists for many years; but with a recent move of premises, this well-kept secret is well and truly out! Willy’s doesn’t profess to be a refined dining establishment, it prides itself on quick and efficient service, tasty food and very affordable prices!

With every single burger on the menu costing under 7€, it certainly ticks the box for affordability. With 13 varieties of burger (including a vegetarian option!) there is plenty of choice, without being overwhelming; and all the burgers are made and grilled within sight; ensuring ultimate freshness! Whilst Willy’s don’t make the biggest burgers around, they are ample sized and flavourful and at under 7€, they make for a perfect late night snack (during summer months they open until 1.30am, ideal for late shift workers!), a relaxed Sunday lunch with friends, or a family meal out. Make sure you get in on the action, before everyone unravels their secret!

Puerto Pollensa: Wimmpy Hamburgueseria

First and foremost, Wimmpy is not to be confused with the beloved British ‘Wimpy’, famous for cardboard fries and sloppy burgers that played a pivitol role in British childhood between the 1970’s- early 2000’s. Oh no, this Wimmpy, in the picturesque town of Pollensa, is home to the ‘dirty burger’. A mix between takeaway and restaurant dining, Wimmpy offers a wide array of homemade burgers, that do not pretend to be anything that they aren’t- and for me this is part of their charm! Served in simple ‘basket style’ and accompanied by skin on fries, these rustic, unaesthetically pleasing, burgers offer a taste hit like no other.

It must be noted that when I say ‘dirty burger’ I don’t mean greasy or unpleasant, no- I mean oozing with molten cheese, crispy onions and crunchy bacon. The kind of burger that you would never choose to eat on a first date, but orderBy on your way home and secretly scoff in the car (we’ve all done it!)! Prices range from 7-12€ depending on toppings and sides, but whatever you choose you can comfortably wine and dine for two at under 30€! The restaurant itself is simple and understated, but just a short walk from the beachfront, meaning you can stroll off the calories later on! Offering a takeaway service allows you to enjoy your favourite burger combination from the comfort of your sofa; and being open all year ensure that you’ll never go hungry!

Sa Coma: Delaney's

The most authentic American diner this side of the island, Delaney’s boasts over 50 different burgers (which can make decision making tricky!) alongside the rest of their extensive American menu, which includes ribs, steaks, hot dogs and more! Adorned with traditional memorabilia, and offering a brilliant variety of live music; Delaney’s has an electric atmosphere which creates the perfect ambience for a memorable dining experience. Whilst 50 burgers will leave you perusing the menu for a little while, there is one burger that will catch your eye immediately.

The ‘Buffalo Bill’ is an epic challenge, that is not for the fainthearted! This monstrosity claims to be Mallorca’s largest burger, and will set you back 25€ (although when you see the size of it, it’s certainly value for money). If you are able to complete this mind boggling burger, you will receive an extra-large pitcher of one of the restaurants fabulous cocktails! However, with only 2 people completing the challenge within the last 5 years, are you sure you’re tough enough?

Located in the seaside resort of Sa Coma, Delaney’s is popular with tourists and local residents alike; and will leave you with a full belly and a happy heart- what more could you want? Be sure to head here for an amazing burger experience, and a night you won’t forget!

Son Servera: Sa Granja

Situated within the pretty square of Son Servera, lies one of Mallorca’s best kept secrets. Specialising in tantalising burgers, this understated restaurant has been feeding the locals for years! Although the menu offers many speciality burgers from caramelised onion and goats cheese, to Iberico pork and sobrasada, and even a salmon option for any pescatarians out there; it is most famous for its GIANT burger! This ginormous burger can easily feed between 4-8 people (depending on your level of hunger) and is served with onions, salad, melted cheese and sandwiched between a brioche bun.

One cannot simply eat this burger with their fingers, you must be sure to cut into equal portions first, and then you can get messy! Of course this novelty burger is great for photo opportunities, and while you may be concerned that such a large burger may not pack a punch with its taste, it really does deliver! Each patty is seasoned to perfection, and the calorific toppings ooze from every inch of the bun, and lap across your tongue harmoniously. Every burger can be prepared at any size you choose (small, medium, large and extra large) and with prices ranging between 12 and 15€, you’ve still got money in the bank for a locally brewed beer or glass of wine!

Palma: Badal Burger

This trendy burger bar in the city centre has certainly got people talking! The interesting combinations on the menu, as well as the ability to design your own burger, entices burger lovers from far and wide to sample these carnivorous creations! The central location means that there is an immediate buzz and ambience, which only adds to the extraordinary burger experience that Badal offers. With vegan and vegetarian options on the menu, they leave no burger lover excluded and at prices at a peak of 11.90€, these ginormous burgers are great value for money!

Unlike other burger bars, Badal also allows the diner to choose their bun and level of ‘doneness’ (that’s really what it says on the menu!) so everything is cooked to orderBy, exactly how you like it! Quirky ‘orderBy forms’ add to the charm of this restaurant, and make dining an interactive experience! However, be warned that this place gets BUSY and booking is always necessary!

Although this article is intended to inform you about burger choices, you cannot mention Badal without highlighting how wonderful their chips are! As well as your standard French fries, and scrummy sweet potato fries, there are a range of ‘deluxe’ loaded fries on offer. From parmesan, to cheese and bacon or spicy chill con carne (even guacamole fries!) the chips are every bit as delectable as the burgers!

Palma: Burger Lab

Located in the stunning Born areaof Palma, Burger Lab is a favourite with weary shoppers, workers and holiday makers alike! Burger Lab doesn’t try to be anything that it’s not, simply promising well-made burgers, served in ‘basket style’ dishes, with trendy touches such as newspaper wrapped chips, and interesting table wear. With the most expensive burger on the menu being 16€, this isn’t the most affordable of Mallorca’s burger restaurants; however, with outdoor seating in the centre of the Born we must be prepared that we are paying a little for the location! Lamb, Pork and Seafood burgers accompany the staple beef burger, each boasting their own range of toppings. There are also Italian and Spanish inspired burgers, for those who are feeling Mediterranean with their choices!

Burger Lab offers an extensive menu of sides and dips, from tortilla chips to garden salads, and of course the trusty chip (my personal favourite, especially the rustic ones!)! The service is efficient, and the location perfect for people watching and admiring the beauty of Palma. Although these burgers may not be as large as others on the island, they are full bodied and exuding flavour- I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed if you choose to make a pit stop and refuel here at Burger Lab!

What more could you want? This pirate themed restaurant certainly serves up ‘hearty’ portions, with grilled meats and burgers taking centre stage!

As well as offering tasty burgers, the pirate theme makes choosing your dinner that little bit more interesting! The staple Captain Scarlett is perfect for those who like a hamburger to be simple and scrummy, whereas the Sir Frances Drake is sure to appeal to those who believe anything belongs in a burger! Prices are reasonable, reaching up to 14€ for one of the burgers with all the trimmings! Port de Soller, renowned for being a millionaire’s playground, 5 star hotels, yachts and now… some of the best burgers on the island! Don Pedro Café Bistro offers an extensive burger menu, incorporating flavour fusions such as chicken, bacon and avocado, to pulled pork and BBQ sauce! Combine these meaty morsels with a choice of sourdough, olive, or good old brioche buns, and you are in taste heaven!

Offering an extensive menu, and serving all their burgers on stylish slates, with homemade fries in brightly coloured buckets- the food tastes as good as it looks! Although Don Pedro Café Bistro offer tapas, fish and pasta dishes, the burgers are what get people talking and it’s easy to see why! The Island’s Best Burger! #

‘How do I decide?! They all sound so delicious!’, I can hear you say. This really is a tough decision to make and, in reality, I’m not sure I can narrow down these options to find the island’s one BEST burger. Each restaurant has its own appeal, own charm and own target audience. From family favourites, food on the run and ‘sit down and relax’ dining- there really is a burger for everyone! The question you have to ask yourself is which restaurant is calling your name…?
