Camino de Lluc - A Walk to Remember

Every year on the first Saturday of August, a great pilgrimage takes place on the Island. The Camí de Lluc has become a tradition since its inception in 1974.

On 17th July, 1974, a group of friend decided to embark on a walk from the now non-existant bar Güell in Palma, all the way to the monastery in Lluc to thank the Virgin Mary. A day later on the 18th, the first march was held with around 30 people joining in on the procession. After several years, the walk has become a major tradition of the Island and is now held every year with multiple local businesses sponsoring the walk. In 1993, the Spanish Royal Family officially inaugurated the famous "Kilometer Zero", which now stands in front of the old Bar Güell.

Every year the number of participants increases and by now has up to 40,000 attendees.

The walk begins at the famed "Kilometer Zero" in Palma, and ends all the way in Sanctuary de Lluc, passing by the towns of Marratxi, Santa Maria, Consell, Binissalem, Lloseta and Selva.

AM Tip: This walk is an incredible way of getting to know Mallorca better and to appreciate its breathtaking nature that the Island is famous for. Be sure to pack comfortable footwear and lots of water to keep hydrated!
